OUR DOCTORS

Dr Carol Gideon landed in Lynden in 2007 after 22 years in family practice and 13 years in downtown Hamilton.  She graduated from medical school at the University of Western Ontario in 1990, then did a Family Practice Residency at Queen’s.  You have all heard her complain by now about coming to Lynden to work part time!  Let’s find that replacement for Dr Picketts’ retirement in 2021!

Dr George Counter did an elective in Lynden during his family practice training, then came back in July of 2018 as a part-time family doctor.  He graduated from medical school in Ireland, then completed a Family Practice Residency with the University of Ottawa.  Dr George has been full time in Lynden since  February 1, 2022 – time flies!

Dr Daryl Picketts retired at the end of 2014.  He is enjoying retirement immensely!

OUR SUPPORT STAFF

We have full time nursing support on site since our friend Kim Lewis retired!  A nurse helps us stay at the top of our game in prevention, well baby care, prenatal visits, cancer screening, immunizations, and telephone triage and advice.  Our new nurse, Sonya, is from Brantford and comes with many years’ experience in family practice.  Ashley moved on to a dream job with Conestoga College – teaching! – on September 1, 2023 and we wish her all the best!

Our “dream team” at the front desk are Tammi and Kim (“new Kim”!), who both grew up in Lynden.  They have been here since fall 2020, and experts in manageing your health care needs.

OUR AFTER HOURS CALL GROUP

After hours access to a doctor has changed in the last twenty years.  Emergency matters must go through EMS/911 to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. Most urgent problems can wait until the next business day, and ALL nonurgent medical problems should be handled by your family doctor during office hours if at all possible.

That being said, Lynden Family Practice is part of a Family Health Organization (or FHO) and there is one doctor in the FHO on call at all times between 5 pm and 9 am on the the next business day.  The doctors who are members of the Brantford FHO all take turns staffing an After Hours Clinic which is located at 217 Terrace Hill Street on the main floor with a separate entrance right on Terrace Hill Street. The phone number for the Brantford FHO After Hours Clinic is 519-304-8221.  As off November 200, you are advised to CALL THE CLINIC TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, as walk-ins are not guaranteed to be seen. The doctor on call can also be reached by pager through switchboard at Brantford General Hospital, but this service is meant to only be available to pharmacies, nurses, other doctors, or police.  Again most non-urgent matters should be handled in Lynden on the next business day please.
